Why I started Roots of Ayo Wellness
Ayo is a Yoruba word, spoken in Nigeria, meaning joy.
That word is at the heart of everything I do here.
Too many women look like they have it all together on the outside while quietly struggling on the inside. You may be used to carrying a lot, showing up for everyone else, and pushing through even when something doesn’t feel right. Somewhere along the way, you may have even been told, directly or indirectly, that this is simply what life is supposed to feel like. But it doesn’t have to be. You deserve to feel well, understood, and present in your own life again. Healing is possible, and it starts with having someone who takes the time to truly understand you.
I’m especially passionate about addressing racial health disparities and the very real ways Black women are too often dismissed, disbelieved, or misdiagnosed when it comes to their health.
At Roots of Ayo Wellness, you don’t have to perform, prove, or pretend. It’s a space where you can simply be. Whether I’m walking alongside you through a new diagnosis, helping you understand why your brain processes things differently, or equipping you with the right questions to advocate for yourself, my goal is to make sure you feel heard, informed, and empowered in your care.

Joyce B. Idehen, MD
Dr. Idehen is a board-certified family medicine physician — a millennial with a dash of Gen Z who genuinely cares about your whole well-being. Having navigated grief personally and living with an autoimmune disease, she knows what it means to be the patient. She doesn't just treat people; she sees them.
Outside of the clinic, Dr. Idehen enjoys exploring new restaurants, traveling, and lifting weights. She treasures quality time with her husband and is passionate about her Christian faith, content creation and nonprofit work aimed at increasing Black student representation in medicine.
